Jennie Romer is a lawyer, author, and advisor on plastic pollution policy, recycling, and safer chemicals. She has spent two decades helping cities, states, and federal agencies design and pass laws that reduce single-use plastic at the source, including U.S. participation in the UN plastic pollution treaty.
Before founding Romer Advisory, Jennie served at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pollution Prevention. She oversaw more than $450 million in pollution prevention funding, managed the development of EPA's label and grant program for low-embodied-carbon construction materials, led the agency's sustainable purchasing program, and supported U.S. participation in the United Nations plastic pollution treaty negotiations. After EPA, she led the North America policy work at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Before EPA, she led the Plastic Pollution Initiative at the Surfrider Foundation.
She founded PlasticBagLaws.org — the leading U.S. resource on plastic-bag legislation — and is the author of Can I Recycle This? (Penguin Random House, 2021), with a kids' edition for younger readers.
She now consults through Romer Advisory.
